Shanie, who used to date Marvin Humes from JLS, is aiming for a career as successful as the This Morning and Celebrity Juice star.

“I love that Holly is able to be a mum of two, girl next door and sexy minx at the same time,” said Shanie, 28.

“And I really admire Dermot O’Leary. I would love to present The X Factor.

“Being a presenter, you just get to be yourself and have a conversation. And that’s two things I love.”

Shanie started her career as a dancer, performing with Cheryl Cole, Peter Andre and Tine Tempah, and touring the world with Kelly Rowland.

She said: “I remember us being in Brisbane and Kelly was a bit bored. We were all jetlagged and she was like, ‘come to the room, we’re going to order food and watch a movie’.

“It was really weird because I’m a huge Destiny’s Child fan.

“Post working with her, no job was ever going to compare – unless Beyoncé called, of course.”

Girlband Duchess were tipped as the “next big thing” when they formed in 2008 but they disbanded three years later, having made little impact on the charts.

Now Shanie has teamed up with the Discovering Arts Music Group to help other bands and musicians get their big break, performing at showcases held at Brixton Jamm in south London from this Wednesday.

“Duchess had a shot,” said Shanie, whose nickname is Miss Jinx (“because I’m always dropping things”).

“But it really is hard being in a band. There are so many different personalities. With Duchess, I left disappointed in two of my three bandmates.”

She added: “All of these industries are difficult to break into. You have to be committed, you have to love it and there’s luck, too.

“Discovering Arts Music creates a platform for people who maybe aren’t suited to The X Factor or The Voice.

“They get the chance to perform in front of an audience that might have industry people in.”

Shanie lives with her boyfriend, former Lincoln City and Gillingham footballer Tony Sinclair, inset, in south London. They met just before she joined Duchess – and Shanie was less than impressed.

“He approached me in Faces nightclub in Essex and I said ‘no thank you’. When he asked why, I said ‘because we’re in Faces!’” she said.

“When I found out he was a footballer, it was too much.” They eventually got together on a night out with a mutual friend.

“He’s a humble, kind, down-to-earth guy who plays football as a career,” said Shanie. “That taught me not to judge too quickly.”

But things could have turned out very differently – Shanie dated JLS star Marvin in their teens.

“We’ve been friends for 17 years,” she said.

“We grew up together and were in Oliver! at the London Palladium when we were 11. We dated in our teens for a few years.

“It was like puppy love. It was serious but we were so young.

“Now it’s like it never happened. Me, Tony, Marvin and Rochelle were sitting together at a christening recently.”

As a dancer and now a presenter, Shanie has had her fair share of male attention – sometimes from famous stars (although she isn’t naming names).

She was even “chatted up” by Peter Andre’s son Junior, who she called “a cheeky chap”.

But she won’t let that distract her from her big dreams.

“You always get flirty people,” she said.

“You get comments and there have been weird things that have happened with male artists. I just shrug it off and move on.

“I just want to concentrate on my presenting and hopefully have an amazing career.”

images (2)        Medik8-Peels

I was recently invited by The Pro Laser Clinic in East Dulwich ( to try the latest celebrity trend… The Medik8 chemical & enzyme facial peels. Now as  a qualified beauty therapist i’m always intrigued by the latest celebrity trends / fads but very rarely do I get stuck in a give it ago myself when it comes to my face! On the other hand with body treatments I’m up for just about every and any treatment going! Well what girl wouldnt???

Medik8 peels are a cosmetic treatment that removes the top layer of the skin, leading to visibly improved appearance.
Peels are often categorised by their depth: superficial, medium and deep. The deeper the peel, the more dramatic skin improvement can be achieved. However, there is also an associated higher risk of complications, increased pain and longer healing time with the deeper peels. The peels can treat a range of skin complaints from a dull & tired complexion, lines & wrinkles to  acne scarring and pigmentation.

There are several different options with the peels, and there is one to suit every skin type & age, your skin care professional will advise you in your consultation on the peel thats best to deal with your skin concerns. My skin care professional was Pro Laser Clinic Owner Sirin. She analysed my skin and advised me that I had signs of pigmentation after my summer of travelling and sun worship this year and advised that she would be doing the Medik8 White peel on me which targets depigmentation.

Believe me when I say it was the quickest facial i’ve ever had! The entire process from entering the room to leaving the room took just 30 minutes. First off Sirin cleansed my skin with a medik8 cleanser before sweeping my skin with acetone to remove all oils. She then simply brushed on the peel with a nice soft brush being careful to avoid the delicate eye area. Next she then turned on the air conditioning to full blast to keep my skin cool whilst the peel went to work. I have to say despite being warned by Sirin that my skin could feel hot and tingly I barely felt a thing. The peel stayed on for just 10 minutes before she sprayed a neutralising spray onto my face, which I have to be honest and say that this particular part of the facial peel did sting a little and become very hot but it was over in a matter of seconds when she applied the cold compresses to remove the peel solution. The last stage of the process was a simple moisture application and then i was all done.

The results were instant, my skin had never felt so fresh and clean and my pigmentation was definitely visibly reduced. In fact I loved the results so much that I have already had my second peel and plan to have my third this month. Will I need a mortgage for this treatment I hear you ask? Nope! The cost is very reasonable at just £80.00 per peel or £180.00 for a course of three. The down time post treatment is minimal, in fact all I recieved were lovely compliments on how great my skin looked the second I left the salon. Sirin did advise me that i was lucky not to have a slight flushed look as most people do post treatment but this does go within 24 hours and she also advised me that some times clients experience a light flaking of skin  in the following days but again I was lucky enough not to suffer this. Sirin recommends an initial course of three peels but advises to completely renew the appearance of your skin to the baby soft skin you were born with (Well you know what I mean!)you would need around six peels.

So there you have it guys & girls the truth behind the once scary prospect of having a chemical peel and turning out like Samantha in Sex and The City did, has now over time  transformed into a modern day pain free, minimal down time treatment that leaves you fresh faced enough to slap on some mascara and lippy and head straight out on the town. PERFECT!

Happy New Year people!

I mentioned before christmas that I’ve been a juicing fan  since completing a Jason Vale 3 day juice detox last year, and I was all geared up to do my next detox in the new year.

After feeling bloated, sluggish and generally tired and podgy after a heavy Christmas and New Year of  the usual over indulgence  I was extremely geared up and  ready to begin my detox on the 2nd January and I even managed to rope my poor boyfriend Tony into it this time around.

The Jason Vale books are simple and brilliant. The actual juice detox recipes that I followed came direct from Jason Vale’s book: Juice Master Keeping It Simple: Over 100 Juice and Smoothie Recipes. It’s a 3 day program that is all prepared for you, complete with a full shopping list of everything you need to buy at the supermarket, that includes fruits and veggies such as apples, carrots, cucumber, broccoli, beets, ginger, avocado, blackberries, blueberries, pineapple and spinach. As well as a shopping list it also gives you  your recipes and your daily menu plan including breakfast, lunch, ‘linner’ and dinner recipes.

Each  of the juices have a combination of detoxing, cleansing and nutritious ingredients which are of course all raw,and the juices themselves taste really good considering the amount of vegetables in each one and trust me when I say I am not a veggie fan!

My favourite recipe of the 3 day detox comes on day two breakfast meal, as its fruity and filling so I thought I’d share the recipe.

Juice Master super detox smoothie:

1/2 Juices Pineapple
3/4 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
3/4 cup blackberries (fresh or frozen)
3/4 cup Bio Live Yoghurt

‘Whats’ In it you might ask?

Vitamins: B1, B2, B6, C and D, fibre, potassium, iron, calcium, manganese, beta-carotene, phosphorus, folic acid, antioxidants, zinc and sodium.

How Does This Help the Detox?

Blueberries contain some of nature’s most powerful antioxidants and anti-aging phytonutrients, which help to destroy the free radicals that age the skin and cause premature wrinkles.  Blackberries are antibacterial, they promote healing and are also god for the treatment and prevention of diarrhoea. Live yoghurt helps to maintain a healthy gut.

Some people say that juicing is expensive, after all eating healthy has always been way more pricey than tucking into ‘Icelands’  finest frozen ready meals hasn’t it? But if you do  try the homemade method rather than choosing a pricey delivery service where its all done for you, It can set you back an eye watering £100 – £200 for a 3-5 days cleanse,so compared to that its not that expensive. I brought the shopping list Vale provided twice over as me and my partner Tony were both doing the cleanse and it didn’t cost more than £45.00 for enough ingredients for the both of us and although the actual juicer will set you back £100.00 if you use it as regularly as i do its worth every penny!

Now i’m not going to lie this detox does take will power! You will sleep excessively, you will miss chewing food, you will feel weak & lethargic at times and you will be a moody grumpy pants and want to quit on day two! So make sure your not run off your feet at work, super  busy or have nights out planned as this will need your full focus and you definitely will want to rest when ever possible so i personally would give exercise a miss too whilst doing it. But on the plus size, your tummy will flatten, your skin will glow and you will feel great at the end of it,but remember you must eat healthily post detox or your body will gain excess weight if you go and eat junk right after. Your body will have been in starvation mode for 3 days during this food free period and will store everything you eat after as fat just in case you stop eating again. So its important to use the detox to kick start a healthier diet and to maintain the results afterwards with a healthy balanced diet and exercise.

I hope this post as inspired all you fellow veggie haters to get juicing and drinking your veg instead of avoiding it entirely, and helped to motivate you to give it a go and make a healthy start to 2013.

Juice for life…

With the season of indulgence just around the corner my usual daily juicing habit is definitely going on pause until the new year!  So with a mince pie currently in hand Lol, I think in the new year  a three day detox will definitely be on the cards for me to kick start a healthier 2014. Most people think when they see juicing in the media  especially when its  associated with celebrities on a diet it appears that juicing is all about weight loss. But for me the juicing health benefits are endless. Jason Vale’s ‘The Juice Master’ Juice detox is a really simple, healthy and effective way to energy boost your body with live nutrients. I have found that since juicing my skin has improved along with my digestive system and of course the tummy is certainly flatter at the end of a three day detox, plus it makes you more particular about what you put into your body after three days of clean living.

In January i’ll be posting my favorite Juice recipe’s to share with you all… Let me know via twitter if you’ll be trying some juicing yourself in the new year.

So you have a special occasion, you’ve saved up for the ultimate day of relaxation, your pockets are probably light of the best part of £200.00 and you end up disappointed and wishing you’d just booked £200.00 worth of treatments at your local beauty spot. Well as a regular spa lover ( Its an indulgence myself and my mother like to indulge in at least twice a year for some mother, daughter time)  and as a beauty expert I have found two spa’s that i’d recommend not too far from London for a day spa retreat.

Alexandra House Hotel & Spa  £££££

The first spa is Alexander House Hotel and spa, East Grinstead

My mum Michelle, my Auntie Debbie & my Auntie Helen and I visited Alexandra House for a girly spa day to celebrate my mum’s 50th Birthday. The ‘Utopia Spa’  is pricey at approximately £150 – £250 for a spa day per person. But the spa pool is incredible featuring massage jets and a sauna & steam room, the outdoor hot tub is gorgeous and we even used in on a snowy day in February with a glass of prosecco in hand. It also features top notch changing facility’s, a gym a relaxation room looking out over manicured gardens as  well as 5 star restaurant for lunch and dinner. This place  really does help create perfect spa day of pampering and being just an hour or so out of London it feels like your in the countryside without really being too far away from the city after all.

The Felbridge Hotel & Spa £££

My second spa is The Felbridge Hotel & Spa – East Grinstead…

My mum and i visited the Felbridge hotel and spa on several occasions in 2013 for a bit of rest and relaxation as well as some mother daughter time. The ‘Chakra Spa’ is reasonably priced offering spa packages between £60.00 – £200.00 per day per person. Also with this spa they even allow you to just go and use just the gym, pool and spa facility’s for the day for just £15.00 and you can then add on treatments if you wish but if you don’t want to then you don’t have too you can just soak up the atmosphere. This Spa allows you to pamper yourself in one of the  Chakra Spa’s five fully equipped contemporary treatment rooms using Elemis, Guinot and Essie products. The Chakra Spa also boasts two nail bars, hair dressing salon, indoor heated swimming pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, gym and tennis courts.

To summarize…

‘The Felbridge Hotel & Spa’  isn’t nearly as glamorous and luxurious as ‘Alexandra House hotel & Spa ‘ but the treatments are very good and this spa does provide all you need from a spa at a reasonable price. I would say this is your one stop shop for a general pick me up, some R&R or a day of bonding with the girls. As for Alexandra house, this is the place for romance, hen party’s Birthdays and general special occasions as it really does make you feel like a celebrity with its 5 star services and surroundings.

Thanks for reading
